1.11 is ready

I think I've solved a lot of those nasty map bugs that plagued the 1.9 and 1.10 version. If you like give the latest version a try:

The latest version 1.11 from 10/27/07

• reads and writes Geocaching.com/EasyGPS (*.loc) files
• reads and writes Navigon Mobile Navigator 6 POI (*.asc) files
• reads and writes Route66 POI (*.csv) files
• reads other Google Maps URLs than those from maps.google.de
• writes GPS Tuner files which may be read from GPS Tuner MapCalibrator
• allows to remove positions such that at least a given distance lies between the remaining positions
• allows Drag-and-drop for the Java 5 and the Mac version
• better processes Google Earth 3 files from GPS TrackMaker
• shows more detailed error messages if the map cannot be displayed
• fixes a JavaScript bug while starting and displaying the map
• fixes a bug while reading Google Earth files which contain only one Placemark
• fixes a bug while reading Tom Tom Rider files which contain only one position
• fixes a bug when writing Tom Tom Rider files if no positions are available
• fixes a bug while reading Google Earth 4.2 files which contain NetworkLinks
• fixes a bug when selecting routes if the routes are identical
• fixes a bug in the Java 5, Linux and Mac version which hampers reading the formats Garmin MapSource, GPX- and Google Earth

Warum Internet Explorer?

Jüngst führte meine als zur Fehlersuche gestellte Frage: Kannst Du mit dem Internet Explorer Google Maps erreichen? zum Vorwurf den Internet Explorer zu bewerben.

Nichts liegt mir ferner. Meine Webbrowser hießen bislang Mosaic, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera und Firefox.

Doch bei RouteConverter hatte ich keine andere Wahl: Nur Internet Explorer und Mozilla lassen sich unter Windows in andere Programme wie z.B. RouteConverter einbetten, mit Firefox und Opera geht das leider nicht. Da der Internet Explorer auf jedem Windows-Rechner installiert ist (ich runde hier 99.9% auf 100%), ist es somit naheliegend, von Benutzern nicht die Installation von Mozilla zu erzwingen, sondern den Internet Explorer zu benutzen. Da viele Benutzer (wie ich auch :-) jedoch andere Browser benutzen, ist der Internet Explorer was Proxies, JavaScript etc. angeht eben nicht konfiguriert und kann dann eingebettet in Navigationsprogramme nicht auf Google Maps zugreifen.

Deshalb immer meine Frage Kannst Du mit dem Internet Explorer Google Maps erreichen?, wenn es Probleme mit der Kartendarstellung in RouteConverter geht.

GPSdash

Rainer berichtete gerade von GPSdash: "... die Datei für die Routen muss "GPSdash2Routes.gpx" benannt werden und kann mehrere Routen enthalten. Sie können weitere Routen von externen Quellen in diese Datei einfügen.

Wenn ich extern aufgezeichnete Tracks mit RoutenConverter ins GPX-1.1-Format bringe und umbenenne, wird diese Punktkette angezeigt. Da das GPX1.1-Format von GPSdash gefressen wird, kann man mit RoutenConverter also sowohl Wegpunkte umrubeln als auch Tracks zusammentragen. Man muss nur die Einschränkung bei den Routen den Dateinamen betreffend wissen.

The latest version 1.10 from 09/30/07

• reads and writes Alan Map 500 Waypoints and Routes (*.wpr) files
• reads and writes Alan Map 500 Tracklog (*.trl) files
• reads and writes CoPilot 6 Routen (*.trp Dateien)
• provides a map view that adjusts to the size of the window
• thus runs of screens with 1024x768 pixels without cropping the right border
• shows dutch texts if this is configured by the operating system (credits to Philippe)
• adds the option to decide whether the last loaded file should by loaded during the start
• allows to decide for formats with restrictions if a route is saved in one file or distributed across several files
• fixes a bug when reading NMEA files which shows coordinats in the south east in the south west (credits to Abie)
